My Process: Painting Beta III

Step 1

Gray frisket in the shape of seaweed is applied to white paper with a wedge shaped sponge. The Beta is painted using a wet-into-wet technique.

Step 2

Additional fish are painted in. At this point I pay particular attention to the negative space that the fish and the frisket have created.

Step 3

A very wet-into-wet background is painted around the fish and over the frisket. When the paint is dry the frisket is removed leaving the seaweed completely white and unpainted.

Step 4

In the finished painting the seeweed has been painted and final glazes of color have been strategically placed to complete the piece.
